Kanji de Manga Special Edition: Yojijukugo

Yojijukugo are idioms used in Japanese (related to Chinese chengyu). These compact phrases cover a complex idea like “What comes around goes around” or “Two birds with one stone” with just 4 characters. Many of these phrases are common in Japanese, but are rarely taught in a Japanese foreign language class, so Manga University put together a book with 80 phrases, and a comic by Chihiro Hattori representing each one. I worked on this book from the original research to translating/writing the descriptions of the idioms. I also made a book design unique to this volume of the series. When it was published it was one of the only English language books on this topic!
